Azwa is right, outrunners are fine with water Paul....There are zero side effects with running a brushless motor in water. Just make sure you take it out and give it a clean & lube the bearing after you run it in water...

What about a sensored brushless LRP brand motor? Would water affect the hall sensor circuitry in there?

Doesnt matter what brand motor it is, all sensored brushless motors will be effected by water.

The hall effect sensor can actually be ruined if you dont water proof it. ScottB did it on his old venom sensored motor, he might post up how he did it it for you.

mm these are a cheapy motor, you can't actually get them apart to waterproof anything. The only way would be to encase the entire motor in plastidip with some sort of seal that still lets the shaft rotate.

My ESC does brushed motors as well, I'll just put the freebie brushed motor in if I decide to go for a swim. It was free so I'm not bothered if it fries.

I can't believe the lengths you have to go to these days to waterproof stuff. Back in my childhood days we used to drown our cars every time it rained, mechanical SC, 9 turn brushed motor, radio gear & all Smile

You could try and seal up the gaps...The amount of water than gets into a motor though would surprise you.

Sensorless motors are the best if you really want to hit water up.
Brushed will work, but the water is abrasive to the brushes and comm (that's why the old school way to break in silver cans was the water dip). So you'll wear it faster than usual.
