3S Lipo Set-up

Post  Jayboy74 on Mon Oct 03, 2011 4:42 am

Now I threw this out to you yesterday, and you know I'm uneducated but am a fast learner.

But what does one need to do to make their rig 3S Lipo compatible without blowing sh.t up, or blowing gears out, etc etc.

Also what 3S battery do you reccomend, Mah, voltages etc.

Here endith the question

Your set up is easy Jase...Cause you have an FX-r which is a 3s compatible esc (so longer as you use a 35t or slower motor). You just need external BEC (which you have on the way), and a 3s battery thats it.

Ideally with a brushed motor you should check that the brush spring tension is high enough to stop the voltage blowing the brushes off the comm. But most motors that are sold as 'crawler' motors should be fine.

As for what you will break, thats a bit of hit and miss....The only thing i've ever toasted on 3s in my scale rigs are tail shafts and the occasional CV pin.

Now as for the batteries.
Voltage is the same with all 3s packs (11.1v nominal) but MAH comes down to what you can fit in you rig. Bigger MAH will give you more run time, but the packs are bigger and heavier. I use 2200mah packs cause the fit in the limited room i have to work with, and run time is minimum of a hour most of the time.

Your choice mate....I'm using Turnigy ones, they are cheap and pretty decent quality.
Just make sure that what ever you end up with its at least 25c discharge.
