What servos are you having the best luck with?

What speed controller seem to be able to do the job?

and what type battery are you running?

I'm using a hextronic that I waterproofed with shoegoo and an O-ring but I have also used a water proof bluebird from HK that was good. As for the speedy there are a few options that are waterproof like the Traxxas ones (XL5 I believe) but no receiver I know that is waterproof. The other option is to do what I did (and scottb I believe) and put the speedy and receiver into a sealed waterproof electrical box with the leads coming out of a hole then shoegooed up to seal it. With this setup I have had it completely submerged (floating actually) with no glitching or water leaking into the box. Also make sure your battery is sealed (again with the shoegoo) at either end especially if you are using lipo's.

I'm just using plain old hitec servos.
It all depends how deep you ford, with my servo mounted up on the chassis, its got to be pretty deep water to get the servo wet. But even then, most servos are water resistent with the case, its around the horn that water gets in. I've heard of a few people sliding a O-ring on the shaft then smearing a bit of dielectric grease on the o ring to keep the water out.

For speedy the Hobbywing/Yeah Racing speedies are billed as water resistant as well. I've had the one in my slash fully submerged before and it still works like a charm. For the one on my honcho, i pull the case of and sprayed it with clear lacquer spray paint (about 20 thin coats) and then liquid leccy taped around the join in the case as its been submerged as well with no issues.


I'm with Jarrod with receivers, theres no waterproof ones. Seal it in a balloon, or a small box.

Well.....with servo's i've given up on waterproofing them,i think its just a waste of time. The servo shaft where it comes out of the first housing has a "o"ring allready in it(all servo's have them.) The rest of the housings have a "o"ring gasket which technically are the best type of seal in the mechanical world. If anything smear some Vasolene around the output shaft if you are in dought.
As you all know "the pig"-Hlilux Submarines all the time,and i do absolutly nothing to the servo's.Same with the MRC Never had a problem.
Maybe for those who hav'nt seen inside a servo,try pulling a old one apart and see for your own eyes how they are sealed from factory,then you will be at ease with the whole issue of getting a servo wet.

I'm doing the tic tac box method for waterproofing and kitchen bench tests have proved positive lol. I've never bothered to waterproof a servo as I've never spent more than $40 on one. I have managed to dunk my ax10 to a depth of 4 feet for about 2 or so mins (the truck fell into a running stream and i had trouble finding it) and the servo was fine afterwards.

So assuming that the servo is ok, how are you guys protecting the esc and other electrical stuff?. I and trying to get it all into a plastic/ tupperware container. Is this a good idea or will it overheat?

After speaking to Scott, and seeing what the hilux and sub bug go trough, I'm just gonna run tower/towardpros in the honcho when i get a chance to fully waterproof the honcho. Everything else will be in a sealed box, this seems to be a proven way to get wet safely?

yep its the way to go.. I've never water proofed a servo and no dramas yet too.
