Bec switch

Post  BIGBOY on Fri Jul 13, 2012 6:10 am

Ok I've put a external bec on tally's truck but whenever the batt is connected The led lights stay on as in tail and headlights can I put another switch in this circuit and cut power to the bec so the batt can stay connected.

It can be done but in all honesty you should never leave the battery connected as it can ruin them. On most of my esc's I actually cut the switch off so I have to cut the power by disconnecting the battery.

Ok , it's just to keep it connected when we are having a muck around not to leave on for days just a couple of hours otherwise he can't disconect the batt and it will go flat .

If you aren't using the truck for more than about 10mins you should unplug the battery.

As Jarrod said you can in theory put a switch in it, but it's not advisable to. Get into the habit of pulling the plug regardless, cause there will be that one say you forget to unplug it and it over discharges a lipo down to nothing. Then you've got an unstable and potentially dangerous battery to deal with (if you try to charge it without realising), as well having to buy a new pack.

Another reason against the switch, is you would have to put it on one of the main input or output wires which is never a good idea. The extra resistance etc would cause potential problems and possibly lead to a burnt out BEC at best. At worst it melts the switch, short the battery and takes the whole truck out in a rather spectacular way.

All the switch on the esc ever did was turn off the internal BEC (to put it simply, it does other 'stuff' internally as well), the esc itself still ran internally and drew power. Which is why you should never leave a pack plugged in regardless.
