Return of the BumbleBee Empty Return of the BumbleBee

Post  Jayboy74 Sun Dec 16, 2012 9:58 am

Scott (Aperture), my boy Matty, and myself, went a for a burn up at the White Hill Reserve.

Yes the Bumble Bee was resurrected and driven through some rather challenging terrain. I was also testing out the new Axial 27 Turn motor for some wheel speed ($10 delivered!!!)

Now bravado took over and we decided that we needed a challenge, and took on the Widow Maker. Those of you who have been to this area, may recall, a giant hill down the back, its about 50-70m high at an angle of about 70degress, it has a constituent of talcum like dust at the bottom, onto gravel for the best part of half of the hill then onto sheer rock with loose boulders (well they are big rocks, but boulders to the trucks) till you reach the top IF you reach the top.

So we sat there and thought, aah stuff it, if it breaks we'll be able to fix it, so matty went first, bogged down in the first talcum dust, before ascending to what seems like an impending suicide mission. He chugged on through the loose gravel, and was doing really well when he reached the sheer rock face, this is where he took a wrong turn and this then made the trucks front end start to turn backwards away from the hill face, then the count was on, it rolled no more than 15 times before reaching the bottom gaining some hell speed on the way down.

After opening our eyes to what we thought would be an exploded view of the RTR Honcho, only to find it on its tyres and rearing to go again. So BumbleBee had a crack. The just legal 1.9's absolutely tore the #### out of the bottom digging some big holes where we ended up getting chinese takeaway they were that deep. Then it plugged away at the gravel, then the fear kicked in, due to it not having an external BEC, power cut outs were common in very critical areas, and the bee lost power in its ascent.

And alas, Scott was not as confident with the roll down the hill as Matty was, that he followed the Bee and when it decided that it had had enough and tried out gravity, he managed to catch it before it went all the way down. I then had a crack, and i got to the sheer rock, where after also following it up, i was left about 2/3 of the way up and the truck was at a nasty angel and required me to reverse a little and then drive not up but along the ridge to find a safer track, then gravity took over, and i lost count at 20 rolls before hitting the bottom.
Matty was chugging up for a second belt, Scott was doing an impression of a car on a dyno tune where the wheels spin but it goes absolutely no where on the slippery rock.

I was where my car was last and thankfully i left my other boy Blakey down the bottom he righted my car and i chugged along again and this time, passing Matty's car.... well actually we sort of passed each other simutaneously as he was falling again as i was heading up. I then passed Scott, and then got back to where i was and this time took the right line only to get snagged on a stick and again this caused the rig to begin its steep descent, only to get caught on a little sapling and then landing facing up on its tyres!!

Devine intervention at its best, then it was on again and oh yeah baby this time i made it to the top, first, then Matty got 3/4 of the way up only to have inexperience take over and a full throttle on a sheer bit of rock put and end to his run, car was ok, but he had the shits and gave up.

Then slowly but surely the bee made it up.

This was one cracking hill and i suggest anyone to try it, just bear in mind this is not carnage canyon but Carnage MOUNTAIN, and its just as dangerous for driver as well as vehicle as the steep climb has its perils.

Only wish i had a camera to take photos of the hill to give you the true appreciation for its peril.

No vehicles were hurt in the making of this adventure

Sounds like a fun time was had by all. Stories like this make me wonder if going for a hard body was such a bright idea Neutral

yeah Scott has a hard body thus the reason he chose to follow up the hill and play catch. it held up with some of the rolls but from the top of this hill i dont think so

Camp hill off boundary road.

It had some great gullies and I say had because its overgrown now. Needs a good rain to flush it out.

i think i know the place, i remember going to a old quarry over that way aswell it had a few good spots,

ive just found a new spot at capalaba/alexandra hills, few nice scale tracks, and a few spots that will be great mud pits after a little rain
