My truck creation
I shall now introduce you to a project I have been working on for quite some time. I thought I would share it with you, seeing as it now moves without me pushing it!
First up is a pic with the body on (I'm still considering making a custom body which will be wider so the wheels match up) and with the tray just sitting on it.
The body is from an old RC I scored for $5 at a garage sale. I think it is an F150. Not too sure about using it but it will do until I decide what I want. The tray is made from 1 or 2mm aluminium sheet and was bent on some extremely large equipment while I was visiting family in NSW. I will most likely cut some of the head board out to be more realistic and eventually add a winch. The tyres are just some old flat irons on some extremely old thunder tiger 2.2 panda wheels. The wheels were the inspiration for this build (funny how it all starts out isn't it!) as I had 2 rear wheels with the pin mount and 2 front wheels with bearings. Spent ages trying to find another set of rear wheels to do a dual axle setup but they could not be found anywhere so am stuck with the single for now. May still do it later on. The rear wheels have 2 flat irons squeezed on and for the front, I shaved the sides down to be more narrow for the single tyre.
Anyway, onto the naked shots.
The chassis is some alu c channel cut to length (still have to trim the ends off, but need to figure out how the tray attaches first) with alu bar to stabilize. The rear axle is a axial rear with lockout attached to Tamiya leaf springs and mounted straight into the c channel. The front is a Tamiya truck front axle flipped upside down with the Tamiya truck leaf springs attached. Driving this is a Tamiya 3 speed out of a truck, as well as a custom (300mm to be exact) drive shaft made from 4mm and 5mm brass square tube (hopefully will be strong enough) with axial universals.
I started this over a year ago and have finally got it up to the running stage but have a lot more to do and will just gradually chip away at it.
Still to do is to figure out a way to have the tray tilt and/or slide. Figure out a body and then mount it. Electronics at the moment are just some I had lying around but will probably stay as it is all that it needs. Figure out a way to mount a few batteries and also work out some lighting for it.
Cheers Jarrod

Re: My truck creation
MAD!!!!
Now if I may have some input:
The tyres must stay inside the guards otherwise ill defect you.
When driving this rig ensure you have your tow truck licence and wear appropriate footwear and a reflectorised vest in accordance with the tow truck act.
You can only have the owner or drive of the vehicle you are towing unless they are an assistant and if they are an assistant they must carry their authorisation ticket otherwise both if you are committing offences.
If you turn up to a meet and another tow truck has been given the tow you must leave the meet immediately as its an offence to stay around. If you do get the tow at said meet you must ensure that you complete your tow authority register in full before putting the vehicle up on the tray, your log will be audited at time of tow if I'm around.
You must carry your towing authorisation if the tow is a result of an accident at something like the dash of death for example. This authorisation allows you to tow from accidents, otherwise you are only allowed break downs and transport jobs.
So you have some things to think about...... Hahahahahahahahahahaha.
You see I'm not technical to show off projects like this as I'm stupid and don't know how to build anything here so I thought I'd join this with my expertise to make me look smart
P.S. looks bloody awesome

Re: My truck creation
Thanks for the comments guys. Looks like I've got a lot of rules to learn with this rig. Lol. Just changed the motor over over to a 45t as the stock tamiya was just a little too quick. Have started to fab up some parts for the tilt tray mechanism and if it works the way I want it will slide back and tilt using the one motor.

If this works sounds like it could be the next hand of god rig for comps, if you right it, no penalty!!!!
Good name for the side of it.... H.O.G. Towing

Re: My truck creation
H.O.G. Towing. Love it. Might just do that if I don't go for the 131tow vehicle. Finding time to do all the fab work is getting hard as I can't use any power tools at night and during the day helping the mrs with the little crawlers but managing to get a little done at a time. Will hopefully have the tilt tray mechanism working soon but have found the 540 motor is too big to fit in (also too much torque) and the micro motors have not enough power (even running 2 together). So might look for a high turn 380 motor and that should be perfect.

Gotta have RACQ stickers on it, that way I don't have to pay, as I'm a member.

Re: My truck creation
Will keep that in mind about the stickers as I haven't even thought about what colour or scheme to do yet. Still deciding on the body. Latest thought is one of those really old long nose ford or dodge trucks with the fenders. Like the Axial SCX10 original kit body. Like this one but with the tray removed.
